Diego and the Steam-Pirates Concept Art by Armand Baltazar

Concept Artist and Illustrator Armand Baltazar has released some great concept art from his upcoming book Diego and the Steam-Pirates, Book one of The Collidescape Chronicles.

Diego and the Steam-Pirates is a pulse-pounding adventure story taking place on an earth that has been extraordinarily changed by a time fragmentation and collision: layers of time from prehistory to the near-distant future have been mashed together. This is a world where dinosaurs have reappeared, where people and places all throughout earth’s history exist simultaneously, where pirate raiders, mysterious sea captains and their robots roam the vast inland seas in steam-driven ships.

Wow, this stuff is amazing! It combines some of my favorite genres — steampunk, scifi, and historical fiction. And your artwork itself is positively delightful. Thanks for posting this!

Thanks for the appreciation. The book won’t be done for awhile, but I’ll update it’s progress on my site as well as release new paintings from the book as prints.

The story is a mash up of time, technology, and cultures. To compliment that, I mixed traditional media and contemporary tools to create the final look.
I created initial pencil, ink, and gouache sketches, scanned them and used Photoshop and Painter to execute the final paintings. Thanks for kind words about the art!
