The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Chronicles: Art & DesignWeta Workshop has released The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Chronicles: Art & Design, the third book in The Hobbit: Chronicles series. This 224 page book explores the design process and development of the environments, cultures, creatures and artifacts with over 1,000 images of concept art, photographs and commentary provided by the film’s cast and crew.

This volume was compiled by Weta Workshop senior concept designer Daniel Falconer and created in full collaboration with key members of the production’s creative team such as concept art directors Alan Lee and John Howe.

      Actually, there were two. Art & Design was the first, and Characters & Creatures was the second. You may have both and just meant both when you said “first one”, but if not, there’s another Hobbit art book out there waiting for you to find.

    Be warned… there are´nt any particularly good images or concept art regarding Smaug. I´m almost regreting buying the book. It´s a shame.

    I have each concept art book for the Rings trilogy, and they don’t disappoint. The first one is especially good. The Alan Lee sketchbook is also cool. It has some good sketching tips.
